KOERS-TURGEON CONSULTING SERVICE ESTABLISHES

NUTRITION SCHOLARSHIP AT KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY

September 10th, 2001

A leading beef nutrition consulting company, Koers-Turgeon Consulting Service, Inc. of Salina, Kansas has established a scholarship at Kansas State University that emphasizes the importance of nutrition and beef quality while providing financial assistance to student athletes.

The student athletes eligible to receive this scholarship must be enrolled in an animal agriculture or nutrition and food related discipline.  The Koers-Turgeon Beef Quality and Nutrition Scholarship is a $2,000 annual gift that will be endowed with a planned gift of $40,000.

According to Dr. Wally Koers, “Proper nutrition establishes the foundation that supports the overall health and performance of humans and animals.  It makes sense that we educate and confirm this concept in a way that also emphasizes the importance of nutrition and diet for student athletes.”

Dr. Koers and his wife Virginia established Koers-Turgeon Consulting in 1977.  Dr. Abe Turgeon joined the company in 1986.  In addition to their Salina headquarters, they maintain offices in Garden City, Kansas and Amarillo, Texas.  Their company provides nutritional, management and research consulting to feedlots, dairies and ranches in the United States.

Dr. Turgeon received his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University in Animal Sciences and Industry.  Although the Koers’ are graduates of the University of Nebraska, they have been strong supporters of KSU.   In addition to employing many KSU graduates in their company, they have previously established a scholarship in the College of Human Ecology for students studying human nutrition.  The Koers are also members of the Presidents Club, a leadership organization in the KSU Foundation for alumni, friends and donors to KSU.

All three of the Koers’ children are KSU graduates and together hold four degrees from K-State.  The children have been successful in assisting their parents in mastering the art of wearing purple and red at K-State events.

The KSU Foundation coordinates fundraising efforts with alumni, friends, corporations and foundations to encourage private support for the University’s benefit.

We will be announcing here the winners of the scholarship from each semester and congratulations to all of our recipients in the semesters to come!
